What is NIN verification?+
NIN verification checks an 11-digit National Identification Number against the NIMC database and returns the identity record it belongs to, so you can confirm a person is who they say they are.
How much does it cost to verify a NIN?+
₦150.00 per successful check, paid from your Verity wallet. If no record is found, or the service fails, the fee is refunded automatically. Businesses with high volumes can ask us for a lower rate.
Can I verify a NIN without the person’s consent?+
No. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you need a lawful reason and, usually, the person’s consent. Verity asks you to confirm consent on every check.
Do I need a NIN slip to verify a NIN?+
No. You only need the 11-digit NIN. The check returns the details NIMC holds, which you can compare with what the person told you.
Is there a NIN verification API?+
Yes. POST the NIN to /api/v1/verify/nin with your API key and you get the record back as JSON in seconds. Test keys return sample data for free, and there are examples for Node.js, PHP, Laravel and Python in the API docs.
How long does a NIN check take?+
Usually a few seconds. The result appears on screen in the dashboard, or comes back in the same API response.
